Last but not least, your must evaluate the prospective PC's overall energy consumption by finding out how much electricity it draws when idle and at full power.  A desktop that use 4 watts or less when it in a sleep mode and 50 watts or less when it in idle mode.  For laptop, the ideal is 2 watts or less when it is in a sleep mode while 14 to 22 watts or even less when in idle mood.  But it still depend on the graphic configuration.  THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE MADE ANY DECISION FOR BUY A GREEN COMPUTER.. =)

In recent years, Hewlett Packard has introduced many Energy Star qualified computers onto the market, including several that have won high EPEAT ratings.  For example, the HP EliteBook 2530p notebook computer is Energy Star 5.0 qualified and has earned EPEAT gold.  Also, Hewlett Packard has qualified for the Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay label, which is applied to products and services with reduced transportation emissions.  HP is striving to use more recycled materials in its products and product packaging.  HP has also instituted buy back and recycling programs for all brands of computers, monitors, printers, scanners and other computer technology.  HP has its own huge recycling facility in Roseville, California which processes about 4 million pounds of electronics per month.

HOW TO PRESERVE BY PRACTICING GREEN COMPUTING

1. 1.    USE PDFs WHENEVER POSSIBLE

First, we should use PDFs whenever we could.  This is because paper products represent the largest portion of the trash.  They made up roughly 68 million tons (or a little over a quarter) of all materials in the municipal waste stream. But even if you don’t feel ready to go all the way to a paperless workflow, you can still cut back on your paper use.

1. 2    MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR PAPER

Second step is that we should save the paper as long we can.  If you really must print, use both sides of the page.  Most new printers can do this automatically. Without requiring you to turn the paper over and put it back in the paper tray.  This is simple way how to save when you need to print.  From this way, also can help together to preserve our green computing.  

1. 3.   TURN THINGS OFF WHEN YOU ARE NOT USING THEM

Next, you should turn equipment off if you don’t want to use them.  It is easiest way that we can follow.  Putting your computer in off mode is very good are you not using them.  Turning it off altogether reduces the load even more.  It also can save cost in energy.  The only way to truly cut their power use to zero is to unplug them or use a “smart” power strip.

1. 4.    REUSE OLD EQUIPMENT

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 29.9 million desktops and 12 million laptops were discarded in 2007 that is roughly 115,000 computers out with the trash each day. Similarly, the agency estimates 235 million units of electronic products are in storage sitting unused in home closets, attics, or basements.  It’s surprisingly easy to sell old electronics on sites.  The advantages of this way, you not only can save green computing, you also can get side income money.

ADVANTAGES OF USING GREEN COMPUTING

The advantages to green computing are realized on both large and small scales. Green technologies are available for an entire organization or for a single employee's workstation. Unfortunately, many companies and business owners are stalled by the initially larger investment in green technology, and fail to realize the long-term benefits and cost savings. As such, let's examine adjustments that can be made regarding green computing and IT support, big or small.  We should together protect our environment.  Let’s protect the environment!

Green PC which is a typical desktop computer uses about 65 to 250 watts.  The different between Green PC and some computers is that they use more watt more than Green PC.  A computer whose label or power supply stated 300 watts, might only use 70 watts when it is actually running, and only 100 even in peak times with serious computing and all the drives spinning.  The bottom line is that doing what you can to cut down the amount of energy your computer uses will make a good sense.  Beside that, not only you will be helping the environment, you also could be reducing costs where it counts to you.  Last but not least, we must support Green PC!!

WHY GREEN COMPUTING IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW..?

Electricity usage accounted  for by computers and electronic gadgets is soaring.  If left unchecked recent strides in power savings will lost.  Even thought many items have become more efficient over time the recent demand for electronics and their use has skyrocketed.  This increase in power usage can impact greenhouse gas emissions and power supply needs.  There is also a huge increase in electronics waste that needs to managed in order to keep the environment clean and save.  Green Computing are important because it help to minimize the energy used in computing by educating consumers on efficient ways to keep usage low, by creating more economic electronics, and by encouraging save and complete recycling.  Green Computing even includes changing government policy to encourage recycling and lowering energy used by individual and businesses.

WHAT IS GREEN COMPUTING..?

Green Computing is the environmentally responsible use of computers and related resources.  Such practices include the implemented of energy- efficient central processing units (CPU), servers and peripherals as well as reduced resource consumption and proper disposal of electronic wastes.  It also called e-wastes.
